AI Will Replace Organisational Friction Before It Replaces Entire Professions

The first useful automation may remove a handoff rather than a job title.

Look between the tasks

Work often waits in the gaps: an email copied into a system, a document checked twice, a decision waiting for someone who knows the exception. These are promising places to investigate automation.

Separate the mechanisms

Some friction disappears with deterministic rules. Other tasks may benefit from a language model. Calling both AI can obscure which part is dependable and which part needs human review.

An operational test

Ask where information is re-entered, where a rule is repeatedly recalled and where an unclear handoff stalls progress. The argument should be tested against a specific workflow before it becomes a claim about an entire profession.
